Fall is in full swing here in Palo Alto. Leaves are changing, Halloween decorations are popping up around the neighborhood, the air is crisp, especially in the morning. I had an exam for my class and have been listening to George Winston’s Linus & Lucy on repeat in my kitchen. It even rained last weekend a few times! All of this has put me in a pie making mood, so I present the next installment of a year of pies.
Last Saturday morning I fell in love with the Downtown Palo Alto Farmers Market. I woke up at 6:00, cleaned the kitchen, and took the blissful five minute bike ride to Gilman. What for? Fresh seasonal ingredients for our first Palo Alto dinner guests! Here’s the latest on a year of pies.

When Mark and I first got married, he was starting his second year of law school and I was looking for work. I had plenty of (too much?) time to settle into our Cottage and bake. That was the beginning of my love for pie making, both sweet and savory.
Four years ago, I moved to Chicago with my best friends for a one-year adventure after graduation. Here’s a secret: I actually started a blog so I could document the experience and process everything I would learn. I wrote exactly one entry (spoiler: I hadn’t even left the Bay Area yet). Determined not to make the same mistake twice, I’m taking steps to set myself up for success this time.
